Earlier today, the NFL Players Association announced (via Twitter) the amounts carried over from the salary cap for the 32 NFL teams for the 2021 season. In effect, teams can roll over their unused cap from the previous season. So when the 2021 salary cap figures become official, they can be added to each team’s carry over amount to determine each club’s official cap for 2021.
This follows news earlier today that the NFL has raised its salary cap to $ 180 million for 2021. That total could point us to the salary cap, which could end up landing north of $ 190 million. The salary cap was $ 198.2 million for the 2020 campaign.
As the NFLPA has detailed, the league will carry over $ 315.1 million from the 2020 season, an average of $ 9.8 million per team. The Browns lead the league with $ 30.4 million, and they’re the only top-five team to advance to the playoffs. NFC East ($ 68.8M) and AFC East ($ 65.3M) are the two divisions that will represent the largest carry-over amounts.
