In a game of goals and defense, the Cleveland Browns fell in the third preseason game, having lost 13-12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All points of the Browns are on the kicker rookie's leg Austin Seibert, who has connected to his four placement attempts.
The Browns did not have several key starters in attack, like WR Odell Beckham, WR Jarvis Landry, RB Nick Chubband TE David Njoku. However, QB Baker Mayfield played with the starting offensive line for the entire first half. Although Mayfield showed a nice move in the pocket and made some jets that his receivers almost lost, he was far from his best, completing 10 passes on 26 for 72 yards. He launched an interception to end the first half, trying to get within range of the target.
The only strong point that the Browns Twitter account was able to post all night was a 54-yard Seibert in the first quarter, giving Cleveland a 3-0 lead. He was also good at 36, 30 and 35 yards to be a perfect 4-in-4.
The other story of the game was the Browns' defensive line, who were playing against their starting lineup and still sacking the quarterbacks of the Buccaneers (as well as the Reservists). OF Olivier Vernon had two of the Browns' six sacks and the defense had shut out a shutout in the first half (although they had the advantage of seeing the Buccaneers miss their first goal on court).
Leading 9-0 at half-time, the Buccaneers scored 10 unanswered points in the third quarter to lead 10-9 in the first quarter.
Seibert's last goal was 12-10, but the Buccaneers headed to the penalty area in the two-minute caution. They pitched the 21-yard kickoff to take a 13-12 lead with 0:15 to play in the game. Cleveland drops to 2-1 in preseason.
