News of Gudinski’s death caused a wave of grief on social media and was reported in newspapers around the world, including Ireland’s best-selling daily, The independent.
Springsteen paid tribute to Gudinski, whom he described as “the first, the last and always a musician”.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee continued, “I’ve been around the world for the past fifty years and I’ve never met a better promoter. Michael was still speaking in a low, growling voice, and the words were spreading so fast that half the time I needed an interpreter. But I could hear him clearly like a bell when he said, “Bruce, I’ve got you covered.” And he always has. He was loud, always on the move, intentionally (and unintentionally) hilarious and deeply moving. He will be remembered by artists, including this one, from around the world every time they set foot on Australian soil.
