RALEIGH, NC – Zdeno Chara will not play in the fourth game of the Eastern Conference final, according to a Sportsnet report.
The Bruins defender missed training Wednesday between matches, although he spoke to media availability. He was not on the ice for warm-ups as the Bruins geared up for a deciding game-4 tie to the Stanley Cup final.
On Wednesday, all the Bruins were on the ice, with the exception of Tuukka Rask, presumably a maintenance day, and Chris Wagner, who returned to Boston after being wounded in the arm as a result of 39, a blocked shot late in Game 3.
Speculation began early Thursday afternoon. Chara could miss the match. There was no early morning skate until the fourth match.
The captain of the B had played all 16 games so far in the playoffs, scoring a goal with two assists and amassing 10 minutes of penalty. He played 22:06 in Game 3 and the majority of their penalty kills.
He would not be the first defenseman of the top pair to miss the time of the series, after Charlie McAvoy missed match 1 due to a suspension of the Columbus series for a blow to the head in Game 6 .
There is no word on what his injury or illness could be.
John Moore ran out of time since the first-round series with Toronto and was allowed to return, but Connor Clifton remained in training. Kevan Miller still missing and not skating, Moore slipped into Chara's place in the formation.
