Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson co-favorites at Augusta National, Tiger Woods 45-1

Welcome to a week of betting like no other.

Golf is an emerging sports game market. He’s still lagging behind the NFL, college football and the NBA in terms of interest in mainstream betting, but every week more and more people are starting to realize that no sport is right for you. offers the kind of fun at a great price that golf offers. . Ask anyone who held a ticket for Carlos Ortiz last week.

This week will be different though. The Masters is by far the most popular golf tournament of the year and given that people have had to wait 19 months since the last one, you know the action is going to be in sports betting around the world.

At GolfBet we always like to say that the money you make on the John Deere Classic is just as green as the money you make on the Masters, but it’s hard to deny the feeling you get when your guy puts on the green jacket. It’s like you’re there with him.

Enough of the pageantry, however. Let’s move on to the betting table.

You can expect a lot of new and casual money to hit the market this week and there’s a good chance a lot of that money will go in the same direction – towards the 17th seed and defending champion. Tiger woods at +4500 (also written 45/1; a bet of $ 10 wins $ 450).

It’s always helpful to remember that bookies know people will bet Woods regardless of the number – also known as “Tiger Tax” – so if they think they can get away with a 45/1 on Tiger. at the Masters, it makes you think about what his real chances are. Either way, there will be a lot of money flying on Tiger this week and with a large number next to Woods’ name, you better believe that a back to back for Eldrick would be bad news for guys in the wilderness.

Many eyes were riveted Dustin Johnson at the Houston Open last week. While many players in the Masters field skipped a trip to Memorial Park, DJ had every reason to be there. After missing the CJ Cup and the Zozo Championship with the coronavirus, Johnson was in the process of shaking off a two-month layoff by the time he passed away in Space City. He picked up where he left off. Johnson briefly held the lead on Sunday before finishing second behind Ortiz.

That was all bookies needed to see to install Johnson as the Monday morning co-favorite with Bryson DeChambeau to +900.

With two wins and seven top 10 finishes since June, DeChambeau’s rebirth has been a sight to behold. The 27-year-old also appeared to peak at the right time, finishing 4th in the PGA Championship and then winning his first major at the 2020 US Open.

It’s never a bad thing to be the favorite, but Augusta hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the guys at the top of the odds table lately. In fact, no pre-tournament favorite has donned the green jacket since Woods did so in 2005.

Bryson and DJ have a lot of company at the top of the table. There are five other players currently under +2000 at DraftKings: Jon rahm (+1100), Justin thomas (+1300), Rory McIlroy (+1400), Xander Scheatele (+1600) and Brooks koepka (+ 1700).

Of this group, McIlroy seems to present the most interesting betting conundrum.

The Northern Irishman is renowned for being a shy Green Jacket of career slam, but his current level of play is well below his high standards. It would be foolish to think that McIlroy, who was the favorite at Augusta in 2019, can’t win, but that’s a short price to pay for a player of questionable form, especially in this area. I’d be surprised if Rory gets a lot of interest – compared to his peers – in betting and DFS this week.

With so much attention given to the guys at the top of the board, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tyrrell hatton (+2500) sort of slipping under the radar, either. Hatton is a bit of a no man’s land on this board as he bridges the gap between the favorites and a group of popular players in the 30/1 lineup.

That said, look beyond Hatton at your own risk. The High Wycombe, England native has become the TOUR’s most consistent player and just picked up a victory at the BMW PGA Championship last month. According to FantasyLabs, Hatton is third in the field in Won Strokes: Approach (SG: APP) in the past 75 weeks behind only Thomas and Collin morikawa, which registers at +3500 this week.

I would expect Morikawa, Patrick reed (+3000) and maybe Webb simpson (+4000) for all to be in a similar situation to Hatton. There are a few very popular players in this lineup so bettors can look just beyond those four and go straight to the double champion. Bubba watson and the still popular in the majors Tony finau at +3300.

Like Finau, Tommy Fleetwood Usually receives a lot of support for betting before the big leagues. I’m not sure that’s the case this week as Fleetwood, who finished T62-T17-T36 in three starts at Augusta, drifted to +5500. The price cut – Fleetwood was 35/1 at the US Open – might grab some attention, but it looks like the pedestrian form of the Merseysider in 2020 will keep punters away.

Bettors are taking more into account the history of the course in Augusta than maybe any other track on the planet, so it will be interesting to see if Rickie fowler (+7000) and Jordan spieth (+7000) take money throughout the week. Neither player has been in good shape over the past 18 months, but it’s hard to argue with their results at Augusta.

In addition to his victory in 2015, Spieth has finished second twice, third once and has never finished worse than T21. Fowler might not have a green jacket in his closet, but he may have the best CV of any non-winner in this tournament. Fowler finished second in 2018 and has finished in the top 12 in four of the past five years.

If the Masters was played in its original place on the calendar, you can be sure that Sungjae Im (+10000) would be much closer to the top of the table than it is now. Im’s game has been wobbly for the past six months, but it has shown signs of building up and was a popular bet at the Houston Open last week. I finished the T50 with a par 3 at Memorial Park so you can expect Sungjae Love to cool off in Augusta.

Three-digit long shot that could generate buzz is Canadian bullet hitting specialist Corey conners to 150/1. Beating that field is almost certainly too much of a demand for Conners, but his elite ball hitting could make him a popular leader in the first round or a top 5/10/20. And you can be sure the DFS players have noticed the 28-year-old’s solid final round in Houston this weekend.
