Tom Brady has one more year on his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a franchise that just won a Super Bowl with the GOATs but will need to start thinking about the future at quarterback. Brady is 43 and things could get tough for Tampa Bay any time the future Hall of Famer decides to retire.
Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht could apparently have a potential Brady successor in mind – a surprising choice, considering the player is already on the roster. Looks like Brady’s replacement Blaine Gabbert will receive high consideration for the job.
“First of all, I love his energy,” Licht said of Gabbert on the Pewter Report podcast Thursday. “I got really close to Blaine this year just being on the sidelines. Gabbert, 31, completed 56.2 percent of career passing attempts for 9,206 yards with 50 touchdowns to 47 interceptions and a passer rating of 72.3 (13-35 as a starter). In order for the Buccaneers to keep the core of their championship roster for the long haul, they will need to consider a contract-friendly option at the quarterback. Gabbert may have his chance to keep the job the first year without Brady – when he does.
