As the Buccaneers continue to try to recover from the massive number of players who have already suffered injuries, it looks like the list is only growing. With Bruce Arians telling media on Wednesday that he doesn’t see Carlton Davis or Sean Murphy-Bunting returning “anytime soon,” things don’t look like they’re going to get any better.
That said, it’s another week in the system and in training for cornerback Richard Sherman – who will continue to improve over time – and there should be some optimism that Jamel Dean will return this year. week.
The Buccaneers had four players who did not participate in practice Wednesday; Carlton Davis (quad), Rob Gronkowski (ribs), Antoine Winfield Jr. (concussion) and roster newcomer Patrick O’Connor (calf). It’s a long shot that Winfield Jr. will clear the concussion protocol ahead of Sunday’s game, so the Bucs are bracing themselves as if Mike Edwards will be the starter against the Dolphins.
The limited participants were Jamel Dean (knee), Giovani Bernard (knee) and Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder). JPP has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury but looks set to come back. The other two players listed on the injury report were wide receivers Antonio Brown (knee) and Chris Godwin (thumb), but both were full participants.
As for the Dolphins, cornerback Byron Jones (ankle) did not participate, wide receiver DeVante Parker (shoulder) and tight end Adam Shaheen (neck) were limited, and cornerback Xavien Howard (shoulder) and safety Brandon Jones (ankle) were full participants.
The Dolphins have already announced that they will be without wide receiver Will Fuller for at least three weeks, as he is placed on the injured list with a broken finger. It certainly helps the Bucs high school as Fuller is one of the best deep threats in the NFL when he’s healthy – although it seems to be less often than not.
Here’s the full Bucs and Dolphins injury report ahead of their Week 5 game;
