Former Buffy the vampire and angel Actress Charisma Carpenter has accused the creator of these shows, Joss Whedon, of abusive and harassing behavior on set. In an Instagram post released today, the actress claims the incidents “triggered a chronic physical illness from which I still suffer.”
Carpenter claims the Buffy the creator called her “fat” when she was 4 months pregnant, threatened to fire her and made a dispute over her approval on set.
She cites a specific example when, in a closed-door meeting after learning of her pregnancy, Carpenter says Whedon “asked me if I was going to ‘keep him.’ The actress says Whedon “attacked my character, made fun of my religious beliefs, accused me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me the following season once I gave birth.

After this reunion, Carpenter says she “felt helpless and alone” but, with a baby on the way, she also felt she had no other choice, so she “swallowed the abuse and continued”. This lack of power, she claims, has sucked in the joy of being a new mother. “And Joss was the vampire,” she said.
Carpenter says she was prompted by Justice League The allegations of actor Ray Fisher against Whedon, who directed this film for Warner Bros.
Fisher has been at odds with Warner Bros. since last July, accusing Whedon of abuse during post-Zack Snyder covers of Justice League. A subsequent investigation by Warner Bros. indicated that an unspecified “corrective action” had been taken and the investigation was completed. No other details were revealed. Fisher was then fired from the studio’s upcoming Flash movie.
Carpenter revealed in her Instagram post on Wednesday that she participated in the Warners Inquiry, claiming that she believed Fisher and that her dismissal from Flash was “the last straw for me”. She continues: “It worries and saddens me that in 2021, professionals still have to choose between whistleblowing in the workplace and job security.
“As a single mother whose family livelihood depends on my profession, I’m afraid. Despite my fear of its impact on my future, I can no longer remain silent. It is late and necessary. It’s time.”
Deadline has reached out to WarnerMedia and representatives for Whedon for comment, but has not received a response.
