The stars who appeared in Buffy the vampire slayer and its consequences, angel, lend their support to actor Charisma Carpenter after speaking out against series creator Joss Whedon on Wednesday.
“While I’m proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be associated with the name Joss Whedon forever,” said Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the vampire hunt protagonist, in a post. Instagram.
“I stand alongside all abuse survivors and I am proud of them for speaking out,” she said.
“Thanks @sarahmgellar for saying that,” added co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy Summers’ little sister Dawn. “I’m brave enough now as a 35-year-old woman … To repost this. Because. It has to. Be known. As a teenager. With her inappropriate behavior.”
“We know what he did,” she added in an Instagram story. “In the wings.”
Other actors on Buffy also sent their support, including Amber Benson (Tara) and Clare Kramer (Glory).
In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, accused Whedon of abusive and vindictive behavior towards her on set, particularly while she was pregnant.
Carpenter said Whedon said she was “fat”, made fun of her religious beliefs, made her shoot late at night despite her pregnancy, and then fired her “unceremoniously” once she was pregnant. ‘she had given birth.
“At the time, I felt helpless and alone,” she says. “With no other option, I swallowed the abuse and continued.”
Carpenter said she spoke out because she participated in a Warner Media investigation into Whedon’s behavior on the set of Justice League which was prompted by allegations by actor Ray Fisher of Whedon’s abusive behavior. Carpenter said she believed Fisher.
Representatives for Whedon did not respond to a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
