Bugatti unveils first $ 9.6 million Centodieci hypercar prototype – Robb Report

In the summer of 2019, Bugatti unveiled the breathtaking Centodieci, a limited-edition tribute to a ’90s supercar that sold out in a matter of hours. Now, two years later, the luxury brand has lowered the curtain on the very first prototype for series development, setting the wheels in motion for production.

Limited to just 10 examples, the multi-million dollar hypercar pays homage to Bugatti’s 110-year history (Centodieci means 110 in Italian) as well as Romano Artioli’s iconic EB110.

While the Centodieci features similar engineering to its limited-edition siblings, the Chiron and Divo, its angular styling resembles that of the ’90s, albeit a bit more refined. It has the characteristic angular silhouette of the EB110, with the same glass engine cover, a small horseshoe grille and five round side air vents.

The Centodieci is equipped with an 8.0-liter W-16 engine capable of 1600 hp.

There are, of course, modern touches. At the rear, the Centodieci is fitted with a light bar instead of the two oval lights of its predecessor and four exhaust pipes instead of the original two. The rear spoiler mirrors that of the EB110 as well but can be adjusted if desired.

Of course, it is also much more powerful. Under the hood, the Centodieci is equipped with an 8.0-liter W-16 engine that should produce a staggering 1,600 horsepower and propel the four-wheeler from zero to 62 mph in 2.4 seconds. The EB110’s 3.5-liter V-12, meanwhile, only produces 603bhp in the most inflated version. The Centodieci also weighs 44 pounds less than the Chiron and packs 100 more horsepower than the Chiron and Divo.

“Our aim was to create a modern interpretation of the form and technology of the time: but at the same time, we did not want to lose the charm and character of the EB 110,” said Achim Anscheidt, director of design at Bugatti. in a report.

Needless to say, every Centodieci requires painstaking work and undergoes body, aerodynamics, engine and transmission calculations before countless tests and simulations. At the same time, the design team checks that the styling is on point. Basically, the team has to make sure that the rolling chassis is capable of all drivetrain functions and that the exterior of the car can handle this brave engine.

“In the next few months, in addition to building the exterior and running more advanced wind tunnel simulations, we can’t wait to hit the test track to start tuning the chassis”, André Kullig, technical project of Bugatti manager for ad hoc operations added.

Bugatti expects the handcrafted Centodieci hypercars, worth $ 9.6 million (8 million euros), to be offered to the 10 lucky customers next year.
