Intel may abandon the Extreme Edition branding of its high-end processors

Mill rumors: Intel will kill his branding processor Extreme Edition according to a former longtime employee. What was once a badge of true bragging rights is about to be eliminated once and for all.

Enthusiasts have enjoyed pushing the limits of processors virtually since they became available to ordinary users. At the time of the Intel Inside ads and the serious competition with AMD, the Extreme Edition processors came out with huge price tags, making bragging rights difficult to obtain.

Intel uses the Extreme Edition brand since the first dual core processor, a 3.2GHz Pentium D based on a 90nm process. After the Pentium D, the Core 2 Extreme series is out. Arriving closer to the present, the introduction of Intel Core variants with i7 Extreme Edition has retained the same scheme.

In a tweet from a 20 year old Intel employee, François Piednoël, it seems that Intel will end its Extreme Edition processors.

Despite the fact that Extreme is no longer badociated with product titles, it may not change much. The introduction of Core i9 processors has essentially taken the place of extreme editing processors. Core i9 options still have the necessary overclocking capabilities and certainly have extreme prices that keep them in the hands of enthusiasts or those who run a business where time is money.

Intel could abandon Extreme Edition to avoid being caught in a bad place where AMD is pushing processors that outperform extreme versions to almost half the price. Whatever the reasoning, Intel will surely find a way to try to build the same perception as that of the Extreme Edition models in the past.
