They lengthened the wheelbase of about 11 inches and added a suicide rear door. access to the rear seats is rather good. The interiors and upholstery looked good in these, like comfortable large sofas. It is reported that 38 of these taxis were built.

Although this has never pbaded the stage of the sub-scale design pattern, it is at least interesting to note that Volkswagen has at least understood that there could be a demand for a Beetle four-door.
This is really all there is, officially, for the four-door Beetles. However, there are other interesting developments near four-Beetle. VW Mexico produced prototypes of taxis in 1996 that had very long pbadenger doors to provide better access to the rear seats, and of course, skilful and skilled customizers had been building unique four-door beetles for years.
Oh, and At least one Chinese company made a new electric version of the four-door Beetle New Beetle, for what it's worth, beating a four-door electric VW Beetle within the span of several years.
So, there is some four-door Beetle story that VW can exploit. Even though they are mostly taxis and police cars, like a lot smaller, rounder, Germanic and cuter Crown Vic.
