Another world record plummeted at Goodwood yesterday, and it was a cracker: the fastest mile in the world balances a car on two wheels. And if that sounds difficult, it was not on a straight road. Driver Terry Grant had to take the car to the Hill Climb race track. Just look!
There are times when you just have to bow down to a talent from another world; It is one of them. Spiting British fielder Terry Grant competed in the event with already 25 Guinness World Records, and came out with … the same number, since he already held the record for the mile the fastest on two wheels.
Grant shattered his previous record of over 30 seconds, with a scorching run in 2: 24.5 in which his Range Rover Sport SVR was raised on the 60 mph mark. The average speed on the mile was a hair less than 25 miles per hour
Now, I'll be honest, I think there are loads of Saudi guys who are furiously looking for the phone to Guinness, which makes that kind of thing faster, on the public road, with no ramp to help "ride", and with half a dozen barefoot friends riding on the high side and changing the tires.
But these guys do not work in the confined space of the Goodwood climbed on the racecourse, forcing Grant to negotiate several tight corners and reduce gaps while balancing the car. It's an amazing thing to watch; watch the video below.
