A former Apple engineer stole secrets about the company's driverless secret car project. Xiaolang Zhang was arrested at an airport in San José while traveling to China and he faces up to ten years in prison when he is convicted.
According to a report from Beat Venture via Business Insider Zhang was a hardware engineer for Apple and had access to the company's self-driving secret car project. Zhang reportedly took paternity leave and downloaded the secret files, which he told prosecutors that he put on his wife's laptop.

Security footage showed that Zhang had returned to the technology company's offices while on paternity leave and had taken things to Apple's labs.
Zhang allegedly stole the secret documents. He booked a last-minute flight to China to work for Xiaopeng Motors or XMotors, which builds electric cars.
The report does not detail Zhang's motive for leaving Apple for a start-up in China.
Apple issued a statement on the arrests of the former engineer and hints that others might have been involved.
