The Department of Microbiology and Immunology, within the framework of existing programs, provides HIV and AIDS training for master's students (doctors, dentists, pharmacists) and bachelors, doctoral and post-doctoral students.
In the area of treating patients infected with HIV / AIDS and infectious diseases since 2006, more than 600 people have been registered. At present, 206 HIV-positive people in the region are undergoing treatment and screening. The number of new patients in 2018 is 32. The monthly treatment of a patient is between 900 BGN and 2000. The treatment is free for patients and is paid by the medical officer of health. Modern antiretroviral therapy provides rapid and lasting viral suppression so that the virus is not detected in the blood. This ensures a late progression of infection, offers a high quality of life for people infected with HIV and a life close to that of uninfected people.
