At least 64 people have died and 44 are missing, NHK state television reported after 49 dead in the night. Among the missing is a 9-year-old boy who was allegedly buried in his house after a landslide that killed three others
"All I have are the clothes I wear," a woman rescued in front of the Japanese state media. "We are on the second floor, but the water is still rising and we have to go to the third floor," she explained
The Japanese government has formed an extraordinary coordination center in the prime minister's office and has sent 54,000 military, interior and fire service rescuers to the great afflicting region of western and southwestern Japan.
"There are still many people in sight and others who need our help, we are working against time," said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

At the same time, meteorologists warn that heavy rainfall will continue Monday, while some prefectures are waiting at about 300 mm per square meter
About 2 million people were evacuated due to flooding and 2.3 million more were advised to evacuate. In more than a quarter of the country's regions, landslide danger warnings have been issued.
