The funds required for these repairs are provided under the Operational Program "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" at 85% and an additional 15% of national co-financing. The conceptual design has been prepared and the tender procedure for the selection of a contractor must be carried out in the spring of next year. The design was carried out by a group of "KIG-IPS-ESA", consisting of three teams of experts.

The current building was designed in the 70s of the 20th century, it was commissioned in 1982 and, in practice, does not meet modern requirements. The project involves replacing some building components, installing elevators and escalators, modifying the façade and creating an accessible environment. The documents relating to this project have already been submitted to the Public Procurement Agency, the repair procedures of Poduene, Kazichene and Iskar stations have already been launched, the documentation relating to the renovation of the station complex in Karnobat is in preparation for. About 1 billion leva have been invested in the current programming period for the modernization of the railway infrastructure, said Rossen Zhelyazkov.
