Christopher Svensson, Ford's global design director and the man who oversaw the distinctive style of the current Ford GT, died after losing the battle against cancer on July 21 at the Ford Motor Show. Age 53 years old.
Svensson was born in Sunderland, England in 1965 and trained at the University of Coventry and held a Master of Arts degree from the Royal College of Art. After graduation, he joined Ford Germany in 1992 as an outdoor designer and had a successful career at Ford that lasted 26 years.
During his time at Ford, Svensson worked in auto design centers in Australia, England and Germany, becoming the design director of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa before moving to the United States to work at the head office. in Dearborn, Michigan. At Dearborn, Svensson held the position of Ford Design Director for North and South America and Global Design Director for Trucks, SUVs and Commercial Vehicles in January 2014.
As an Outdoor Designer at Ford, the Englishman was known for his work on the city's first Ford Ka and the third generation Ford Focus. However, Svensson will be remembered for his role in developing the current Ford GT, a project that was undertaken in secret in a basement room of the Dearborn Automotive Design Center

Christopher Svensson is survived by his wife, Sonia, and their twin daughters.
