HMD Global, the company that owns the rights to use the Nokia smartphone brand, is moving data storage for the activation and operation of Google Cloud Region devices in Haina, Finland, according to the company.
To this end, HMD has partnered with CGI and Google Cloud. This will allow Nokia smartphone owners to offer a better consumer experience and improve the speed and quality of updates, the company said.
Nokia smartphones that will start storing data in the new center will be the new Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 2.2. Data from previous models will be moved after the Android Q update, which will start later in 2019 and end next year.
In the words of Yuho Sarvikas, Global Product Manager at HMD, every Nokia smartphone included in the Android One program will receive regular security updates for three years and operating system updates, on two years.
According to Mr Sarvikas, this move "increases investment in our European country".
"Google Cloud and CGI have been the natural choice of our strategic cloud partners because of their close collaboration with them, which ensures we apply our leading security technology and data badytics." We want to stay open and transparent how we collect and store device data, and we want to make sure people understand why and how that data is used to improve the performance of their phones. This is a change to confirm our promise to fans of mobile phones. Android clean, secure and up-to-date, with a focus on security and privacy via our data servers in Finland, "said Sarvikas.
All of this is happening at a time when regulators are increasingly monitoring technology companies around the world to protect consumer information.
