The European Commission launches a new race within the DiscoverEU initiative.
Between today (12.00 CET) and Tuesday 11 December (12.00 CET), 18 – year – olds can apply for a travel card to discover Europe next summer.
This is the second stage of the initiative after 15,000 young people had the opportunity to travel across Europe between July and October 2018 during the first successful stage. Many of them took part in the events organized during the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Any citizen of the European Union born between 1 January and 31 December 2000 may apply for this tour. Winners may travel between April 15 and October 31, 2019 for 1 to 30 days.
As part of this cycle, the European Commission specifically calls on young people with special needs or social challenges to apply. The Commission will provide information and advice to people with special needs and will cover the cost of special badistance (eg for an escort or guide dog for visually impaired participants). Those who wish to participate may ask European Youth Portal, where they will have to register and share their travel plans. The candidates will be selected on the basis of a questionnaire of five questions, together with several answers relating to European culture and diversity, to EU initiatives for youth, to the next elections to Parliament European Parliament and a supplementary question on a second subject.
