In May, Xiaomi seduced the Internet with its upcoming "Transparent" Mi 8 Explorer Edition smartphone that, according to the company, showed the phone's internal components in a stylish way, unlike any transparent or translucent gadget before. There was just one problem: there were reports that the exposed circuit board was not really real.
It turns out that these reports could be on the spot. Chengming Alpert – the Twitter user who began to doubt claims of Xiaomi – published photos of his alleged inner parts that appear to be just a cosmetic plaque (and probably less photogenic internal components).
Assuming that the leaked parts are real, it would seem that Xiaomi is working hard to create the illusion of optics with real 3D components to give it an idea of depth and realism. But the card printed in the images that leaked seems to be cosmetic.

Removing the plate from Xiaomi's press photos clearly shows that the transparent looks of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition are a little more misleading than one might think.
