The main engine option will be a 1.5 liter petrol for most markets; 660cc of essence to be in Japan only.

Suzuki officially unveiled more details on its new small Jimny SUV. The model, as previously reported will be sold with a 660cc gasoline engine for the domestic Japanese market. In addition, a larger 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine will also be seen under its hood, which will be mainly sold in markets outside Japan, including Europe.

Transmission choices will include a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual for 1.5 petrol. Suzuki has recently stopped selling diesel cars on the European market, which means that the Jimny should also be sold with only the above mentioned gasoline engine option. The larger engine Jimny should reach a top speed of 144 km / h.

The new Jimny is equipped with a part-time four-wheel-drive system with high and low-end modes, although it channels power to the rear wheels in standard form. The new Jimny sneaks with the low-end speed selector for its 4WD system in the old system to maximize its off-road adjustability. Like its predecessor, the new Jimny is built on a ladder frame, but now has extra rails to increase stiffness. It is also equipped with a rigid three-link suspension for off-road agility.

Suzuki claims that the Jimny can climb on a slope with an approach angle of 37 degrees and a starting angle of 49 degrees. Ground clearance is 210 mm

The design of the new SUV reflects its status as a 4×4, inspiring previous Jimnys thanks to the simple box-shaped body, vertical grille and round headlights with separate indicators . Much of the design looks similar to that applied to the latest Mercedes-Benz G-Clbad, such as the wheel arches and taillights at the bottom of the bumper.

The Jimny's interior, meanwhile, features modern features such as a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth. However, the overall design remains heavy, with the preferred shape feature, to allow users to use controls and buttons even with gloves. New safety systems have also been added, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and sign detection, a first for any Suzuki model.

Two folding rear seats allow you to carry up to 377 liters of luggage. 53 liters more than in old Jimny. The new model rolls 20mm higher on 15-inch alloy wheels, but the overall length has decreased slightly to 3.480mm.

Since its official revelation, the Suzuki Jimny has generated a lot of buzz in India. There is no news of a launch in India for this already popular SUV. A few years ago, Toshihiro Suzuki addressing to Autocar India, had declared: "With the exception of products kei jidosha (Kei cars), we will take all new Suzuki in India. One can only wonder when, rather than if, the Jimny is launched in India
