Only 57 years old was the creator of "Bob the sponge"

Stephen Hillenberg, creator of the animated "Sponge Bob Square Pants", has died of "Nickelodeon".

He suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, according to the studio. Hillenberg was 57 years old.

"Steve Stitch" SpongeBob Square Pants "with his unique sense of humor and innocence that have brought joy to generations of children around the world," Nickelodeon added.

The studio released the successful animation in 1999.

Hillenberg was born in Oklahoma and has been nominated four times for Emmy, the biggest television award in the United States.

Last year, he announced that he had been diagnosed as being APC, a disease characterized by progressive degeneration of motor neurons.
