Taxi drivers in Sofia are ready to protest, Nova TV reported. Drivers ask for an update of their rates and the right to drive in the bus lanes. In addition, they launched an action against private cars that stop at their booths.
"The purpose of the demonstration tomorrow is to show the Sofia municipality that we are determined to introduce minimum fares and to update the maximum," said Raina Dimitrova of the taxi union.
Taxi drivers will insist to be allowed to circulate in the bus lanes when they are with customers. "There is a way to regulate it," says Dimitrova.
"A bus carries 50 or 100 pbadengers, so the legislator gave him this opportunity. The question of whether taxis should circulate in the bus lanes is the subject of debate and an amendment of the law", said Zafir Zarkov, vice chairman of the Transport Committee of Sofia City Council.
