The Los Angeles Motor Show launches the updated Toyota Hybrid. Changes to the Prius include substantial improvements to the salon, exterior cosmetic changes and, most importantly, the AWD-e system. these will initially be offered only in Japan and come in the form of additional equipment.
In the new rear axle transmission, an additional 7.2 horsepower electric motor is installed. Its task is to badist the vehicle when starting, but only works at 10 km / h. Once this minimum speed is reached, the electric motor is turned off and the vehicle engages again only in the forward transmission.
The electric motor that supports the rear wheels when starting can be briefly activated by the electronics in case of spur of the front wheels in order to stabilize the vehicle. But here too, there are speed limits. This can only happen at 69 km / h.
Otherwise, the main aggregate of the hybrid tract is well known. It is a 1.8-liter internal combustion engine with a power of 96 horsepower. The electric motor of the powertrain carries the system to 122 horses. For AWD-e cars, lithium-ion batteries will be replaced by nickel-metal hydrides.
The refurbished Prius on the outside is recognizable by the new headlights and front bumpers, as well as the redesigned taillights. In the room, the most notable change is a new 11.6-inch screen positioned vertically. Otherwise, the Japanese claim to have significantly improved the materials and the badembly themselves.
