Sebastian Vettel ruined the magic of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes in the UK Grand Prix. To the delight of all Ferrari fans, the German won his 51st career success at Silverstone and finished the four-game winning streak of his great rival. Although he pbaded from second position, Vettel quickly came out and was helped by Hamilton and teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Fortunately, the contact was fatal to none of them, and the Briton achieved little heroism with his second place. Raikkonen was the adept who walked on the staircase of honor, despite the punishment that he had inflicted on him.
The other Mercedes driver, Walter Botas, had a real chance of emerging victorious, driving both exits from the safety car. and Hamilton on the track, while the other cars in the head moved their tires one more time, did not work. While defending much of Vettel's attacks, his worn tires eventually brought him back to 4th place. The Top 5 completes the Red Bull rider Daniel Rickardo while the other bull rider Max Ferstaden has dropped a few laps before the finish due to a technical problem
The success of Vettel led to an increase in his overall lead. The German is already leading with 8 points ahead of his great rival, who was extremely disappointed after the race and did not appear for the mandatory blitz interviews preceding the awards. It is very likely that Hamilton will be punished for this arbitrariness.
The star of the Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel, had a very good start and in the first few meters led the column. Behind him, Valter Botas (Mercedes) showed a better reaction than Kimi Raikkonen and he quickly found himself in front of him, while Hamilton took third place. This was decisive, as in the third lap, the Briton left enough room for Raikkonen to intercept and the Finn blocked a right front tire that caused a collision. He did not surprise Iceman's Ferrari, but Lewis was thrown off the track and returned to the pillar upon his return.
There was also an accident early with Sergio Perez (Force India) managed to continue the race after turning off the track and pbading through an advertising banner. Brendan Hartley, the Toro Rosso rider, whose mechanics were preparing his car for the last race, was the only one to give up.
Hamilton immediately started climbing, and by the seventh lap, he had already reached 10th place. However, the British has made several reports on his car: lack of traction in the rear tires and momentary power loss. At the same time, Vettel started with an easy move to advance to the second Botas, and he slowly broke up. Raikkonen also received a 10-second penalty for causing the accident early
The Finn decided to stop on lap 14, in which he suffered a penalty and lost his 5th already in Hamilton's possession. The veteran received instructions from engineers who armed him with a set of mediums to push very seriously in his first tours.
The 3 rd and 4 th cars of Red Bull have demonstrated that they would have similar strategies. Fertappen visited the boxing event during the 18th round of medal ceremonies, and Rickardo did the same thing later. So Hamilton was already in the top 3, but with a long delay behind Botas and Vettel, who gradually started to lose their lead. The Red Bullies were able to "come back" to the 6th Raikkonen
In the 20th lap, the Sauber Charles Lökler race ended shortly after his visit to boxing. The problem was probably related to the tires that had just been fitted.
Vettel felt where things were going and went into the box for new tires, and Botbad was also doing the same thing later. Thus, the configuration of the summit was Vettel – Hamilton – Botas, which Hamilton still drove with soft tires. That only changed in the 25th lap when Hamilton also "shifted" the tires of the medium, which brought him to 6th place, 10 seconds from the fifth Raikkonen.
Surprisingly, Daniel Ricardo headed for boxing on 31 lap to put a brand new set of soft tires. The strategy was definitely surprising, but it gave the Australian a chance for late attacks with faster tires
Two races later, the race became a real disaster for Sauber after Markus Eriksson lost control of his rear tires. pressed at high speed into the tire safety barriers in the first lap. The serious incident sparked the emergence of a safety car that would put all the differences back here. For this reason, Vettel, Raikkonen and Ferstaden again entered the box to put soft tires while the two Mercedes remained on the track. Botsas was at the top, Vettel and Hamilton, behind Fertaken, Raikkonen and Rickardo, 15 laps before the end of the race, Botas made a nice raise and opened a small lead over Vettel. Behind them Hamilton stayed away and had to defend Fertaken, who lost for a moment the 4th place of Raikkonen, but immediately dismissed him. Just a lap later, however, the safety car was called again, as Carlos Sains Jr. (Renault) and Romain Grogan (Haas) mutually eliminated. The Spaniard has experienced a risky skid in the first corner on the outside, and Grozano has not turned out well enough and that's all for both.
The second round was on lap 42 and Vettel was in a much better position. After only a few rounds, the German attempted an attack on Chief Botas, who defended himself very skilfully. It's still there that Hamilton has no resources to chase more than to keep his third place. Back Fertapena had a problem with the car and went through one of the safe areas, allowing Raikkonen to take it out 4th.
Shortly after this episode, Vettel pushed Botas back shortly before the last round. The Finn again defended himself very cleverly, paralyzing German attempts several times. 5 laps before the end Fertapane made another mistake and found himself in the gravel, falling to 6th place. The problems with the Dutch car turned out to be very serious, and finally he gave up the race in the end
Shortly after this episode, the logic came about, and this time, Botas did not show up. could do nothing against the imaginative intrusion of Vteltel. The Finnish tires suffered too much damage after his aggressive defense, allowing Hamilton to take second place. Three races before the end, Raikkonen also managed to face his compatriot Mercedes, then drove out Hamilton in an attempt for a double win "red". Overall, however, his chances were limited to zero, so the status quo was preserved up to the beating flag
