VAG has announced the creation of a specialized software development division. By 2025, Car.Software will hire 5,000 programmers who will have to increase the share of their own software used in the cars of the group, from 10 to 60% only.

Currently, Volkswagen is supporting more than 200 external companies to develop software to manage 70 different electronic modules in the automaker's cars. In addition to creating huge logistical complications, it is quite expensive.

The most important task of Car.Software will be to create its own operating system called vw.os and to integrate cars into a cloud storage system called Volkswagen Automotive Cloud. The new subdivision will begin in the fall, with the first sales of the first 100% electric VW.


By 2025, all cars manufactured under the hood VAG will be equipped with the new software platform. This year, the company will hire 500 programmers, electrical engineers, connectivity specialists, stand-alone management, cloud architecture and e-commerce. Next year, the number of employees at Car.Software will increase to 2,000.
