The studio also plans to use the new space to “tell new stories in the Destiny universe and create entirely new worlds in to-be-announced IP addresses.” In particular, Bungie plans to “bring at least one new intellectual property to market before 2025”. In June 2020, jobs were found suggesting that the studio’s new IP address will be “comedic” and feature “fancy characters”. As reported by PCGamesN, Bungie filed a trademark for something called “ Matter ” in 2018, which could be linked to this new IP address.
Bungie expects to grow rapidly in the future and is expanding to welcome new talent and make more games. In 2022, the studio will also open its first international office in Amsterdam for its Publishing and Marketing division.
Outside of the games themselves, it seems the focus is on “new media” and “media IP expansion” depending on the talent Bungie is recruiting. The studio added Pamela Kaufman to its board, who previously worked on “the licensing and merchandising of ViacomCBS ‘portfolio of brands spanning Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, CBS, Showtime and Paramount Pictures.” While the expansion of the Destiny universe may involve more games, it could also extend beyond this medium and into others such as TV, film and more.
Bungie’s Destiny 2 recently entered its thirteenth season, Season of the Chosen. Find out what to expect here.
