Bungie donated Destiny 2 players a big update on the developer’s plans throughout 2021, as well as a preview of 2022. Big campaigns and additions are coming, but one of the biggest announcements is the addition of cross-play between Windows PC and console players.
Crossplay is coming in droves in Season 15. We will be doing some internal deployments and alpha testing in Season 14 to prepare for a widespread launch this fall. With Crossplay, you will be able to play with all your friends, no matter what platform you call home. And don’t worry, we won’t pair console and PC gamers together in Crucible unless PC gamers specifically invite their console friends to play with them in PC Crucible pools.
Previously, PC gamers were locked to only play with PC gamers, and console gamers were in the same boat. In PvP games and first-person shooters, keyboard and mouse controls are considered a bit more precise, which is an advantage in PvP modes like the Crucible. Fortunately, raids and co-op parts of the game don’t have the same restrictions.
This update should offer the best of both worlds. If console gamers want to enter the melting pot against PC gamers, they can do so by playing with PC friends. Otherwise everyone can play together which should do Destiny 2 a much easier social experience to share.
Cross-play is slated for fall 2021, but Bungie will be testing the feature throughout Season 14 with internal testing and alpha testing. More details will be provided on these tests in the future, but for now it is promising that Destiny 2 players will eventually come together for a good old school raid.
