One of Destiny 2Twitter writers took to Twitter over the weekend to clear up some players’ confusion and confirm that two of the game’s biggest characters are, in fact, gay and in love.

The romantic relationship between Osiris, the exiled warlock, and Saint-14, the noisy Exo Titan, has been underlined in Destiny 2 for a while. But in the discussions on Reddit, Games forums, and elsewhere there are players who misinterpret their relationship as heterosexual bromance.

The Saturday, developer Robert Brookes wrote a Twitter thread clarifying matters. “Back when I joined Bungie, I always felt that Saint-14 and Osiris had a romantic relationship because, as a queer man, their romance made sense to me,” he writes. “I learned that my interpretation was actually correct when I became a narrative designer for the company and was thrilled.

He continued:

I’ve been writing Saint and Osiris as gay ever since I started working at Bungie, because that’s what they were before. They are private and nuanced characters. There was never any space to unequivocally state their identity. But the nuance is lost in an era of queerbaiting.

When I saw how unclear the community was on something as obvious as “Is Zavala an Awakened One,” I realized I probably should say something. Because it’s no secret, it’s not a matter of speculation, and it’s not a puzzle designed to be solved by the community. It’s them.

So yes, Saint and Osiris are gay. It always has been.

Confusion among some players over the character’s relationship has apparently persisted even after a giant lore drop earlier this month titled “Sacrifice Ft. 1Which has set the stage for the current season in which Osiris will face a new threat Hive. The scene ends with Saint-14 calling Osiris his “fire bird,” and Osiris promising to send him letters while he’s gone on his final mission. “Osiris can’t contain a laugh. Saint kisses her, ”Bungie wrote. “His mind is facing the stars, but Osiris still feels relaxed. One day that will be enough.

Explaining his desire to formalize the two characters’ romance, Brookes discussed the importance of representation in media and society. “It helps you identify, understand and feel seen,” he said. written on twitter. “It’s especially powerful for those groups of people who still face marginalization and persecution because of the way they were born.”

Queerbaiting, where same-sex relationships are mentioned in stories but never fully realized, also played a role in her decision. “Queerbaiting exists, it’s not nice, and it has no place in a gay community or in spaces that promote LGBT rights,” Brookes wrote. “There is a place and a time for nuance and that’s not all, because doing so is actively damaging a marginalized community.

Following the Twitter thread, there was renewed calls from the community for Osiris and Saint-14 to finally meet in the Tower. While Saint-14, the Osiris Trials vendor, is currently busy shopping in the hangar, Osiris, who only recently returned at the start of Season of the Hunt, is busy doing nothing in it’s a mess.
