The fast food chain plans to start selling the plant-based meat substitute, the Burger impossibleRestaurant Brands International, parent company of the Burger King Group, said during the discussion of its quarterly results Monday. The Impossible Whopper will first be sold in some cities "in the very near future" before expanding nationwide, according to CNN.
"Burger fans prayed, the Burger gods listened. #impossiblewhopper will be deployed at 7,200 @Burger King restaurants across the country at the end of 2019, "tweeted Rachel Konrad, spokesperson for Impossible Foods.
Burger King restaurants in the St. Louis area started selling the Impossible Whopper earlier this month. The herbal patties are designed to look and taste similar to those of meat. The Impossible Whopper will include the same bread, the same cheese and the same condiments as an ordinary Whopper.
"This is an important moment for Impossible Foods, whose mission is to eliminate the need for animals for food production technologies," Konrad said. "We are growing rapidly to meet the burgeoning demand for the Impossible Burger."
