A plane with four people on board crashed into a building in Farmington on Thursday morning.

The plane, a Cessna Citation 560X business jet, crashed into a building on Hyde Road around 10 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane took off from Robertson Field in Plainville and was heading to the Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina, according to the FAA.

Officials said the building is located at 111 Hyde Road.

Farmington Police said there was a problem in the air and the plane struck the ground and then the building.

Video of the building shows a large fire originating from a section of the structure.

Those present said they heard a loud boom, the ground shook and the lights went out.

Authorities do not believe that any of the building workers were injured.

Firefighters try to put out the flames from above.

Officials from schools in Plainville said students would be kept indoors due to smoke from the crash, but received an update just before 11 a.m. stating that the blaze was under control and that the thick smoke had cleared.

They said they were cleared to resume normal outdoor activities and all managers informed their staff.

There is no immediate word on the injuries to people on the plane.

Several roads are closed, including Hyde Road, Spring Lane and Johnson Avenue.

The FAA and the NTSB will investigate.

The governor goes to the scene.

This is a developing story.
