Busy Philipps reveals her 12-year-old is gay and uses their pronouns

So it’s no surprise that she wants to talk about it on her podcast, Busy Philipps does her best. Once she got Birdie’s agreement, she shared their gender identity and sexual orientation for the first time with listeners.

“For those of you who are my friends listening at home, this is the first time you’ve heard that Birdie is gay and absent,” she said on the podcast episode. “Birdie told us at 10 and we immediately… I mean, obviously I knew Birdie knew.”

She continued, “I said, you know Bird, I did a bad job with the pronouns because Birdie said they would like their pronouns to be them / them and I didn’t because I have this public figure and I want Birdie to control her own narrative and not have to respond to anyone besides our friends and family if they don’t want to. And then Bird said: “I don’t care. You I can talk about this I’m gay and out. You can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s awesome.”

Busy seems to do a great job mothering Birdie. She sets an example for all parents on how to be open and accept their child’s gender identity and sexual orientation. She also explained on the podcast that she was open with them about not being afraid to make their own way. “Build your life the way you want it and it doesn’t have to look like anything you’ve ever seen or been molded for you, because maybe it doesn’t exist”, a- she declared. Birdie. “You can choose what will make you feel fulfilled and happy. It doesn’t have to be one of those constructs that we’ve all been nurtured our entire lives. It’s a different world you’re going to build f * cking. ‘”
