Buyers Trying To Buy New PS5 Report Problems From Walmart And Best Buy Websites

Walmart (WMT) has phased out the PS5 online every three hours starting at noon ET on Thursday. But customers started to experience issues with the retailer’s website almost immediately.

“Walmart froze on me trying to get the new PS5 while I had it in my cart… smh,” Twitter user Logan Wilson said around 12:30 pm.

“There was the PS5 in my cart, then Walmart crashed …. pain” tweeted around 1 p.m.

In a statement, Walmart said Thursday afternoon that it saw a surge in traffic upon the release of the next-gen console, “resulting in some customers being intermittent sluggishness for a few minutes.”

“We quickly caught up in volume and are currently restocking the item for additional inventory release throughout the day,” the statement said.

Walmart customers continued to experience issues around 3 p.m. when the company released its latest set of PS5 consoles. At 3:05 p.m., Twitter user soccerbabs tweeted that she could not access the Walmart website “without receiving an error message”.
Some Best buy (BBY) shoppers had issues similar to those at Walmart.
“Best Buy ripped this PS5 out of my cart,” @theshiningsun tweeted.

“Once again, I had a PS5 in my basket at Best Buy and a last second error”, added @JDantastic around 10 a.m.

Best Buy acknowledged that some customers weren’t able to purchase a PS5 from the company’s website.

“For customers still looking for a console, there will be more opportunities to order one from BestBuy.com throughout the holiday season,” the company said in a written statement.

Some Best Buy shoppers have expressed gratitude for the curbside pickup of their PS5.

“Shout out to @BestBuy for making console collections quick, user-friendly and hassle-free!” @Colteastwood tweeted Thursday afternoon.

“Secure package,” added @ashdog_, who also shared a selection of his new PS5 after picking it up.
