BYE BYU: Gonzaga Fails with a Victory of 102 – 68 Senior Night

What a convincing senior evening. Jack Beach, Jeremy Jones and Geno Crandall alongside Josh Perkins and Rui Hachimura. In addition to the four older people mentioned, in all likelihood, Rui and Brandon Clarke will not be back, as will perhaps Killian Tillie and even Zach Norvell. While ESPN kept repeating, BYU had won three of their last four kennel games. They had also played basketball in the last four weeks. It does not matter.

Gonzaga injured BYU 102 – 68. Snacks, Perk and Rui all scored over 20 points and Gonzaga's video department collected important footage for this year's flagship film. T. J. Haws and Yoeli Childs have done their best to keep the game competitive, but Gonzaga is simply too talented for one of the best offensives in college basketball history.

Gonzaga fans are right to fear a bit BYU during the senior night, but thanks to Zach Norvell, they were able to relax at half-time. For the second consecutive game, Norvell dominated the first half with 17 points, including three 3s and 3s without fear. Gonzaga went to the locker room with a lead of 51-38, despite Brandon Clarke having his worst half as Zag, with a 0 for 5.

The second half was competitive for the first five minutes, but BYU quickly accumulated fouls, giving Gonzaga the bonus with almost 15 minutes to play and the double bonus with 11 minutes. The fault was not a determining factor, BYU imploded for lack of a better term with about 10 minutes to play and Zag's fans took advantage of the most exciting evening of the evening Senior. The turning point seemed to be a Corey Kispert block and the quick break that followed led BYU coach Dave Rose to rush to the floor and clinch his second technical foul. The game has never been competitive after this game. BYU seemed to lose heart and the Zags scored an assortment of fast paced dunks and three hot wires.

What fans will remember at night are some of the most incredible games of the season. BYU's nasty Nick Emery was the recipient of a 1st Zach Novell's fake half-ball that made him stumble and fall to his bench Then, in the second half, Geno Crandall crossed him into the key, causing him to stumble 10 feet in the opposite direction. Crandall probably had his best night as Zag, scoring eight of four points for five shots on goal with four assists. One of these baskets was a spectacular aisle-hallway of a Josh Perkins food.

Speaking of Perkins, he was spectacular tonight. He scored Zag's first seven points in the second half and finished with 21 points and 7 assists. Rui had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Clarke regained form in the second half with 11 points. Jeremy Jones had a strong performance in his last game at Kennel with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

With Duke losing this week, the Zags should be the No. 1 team of the nation in the poll that will take place Monday. They finish the regular season with a game in Pacific then a last match in Moraga.
