A 78-year-old Californian woman has died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, but her death does not appear to be linked to the shooting, health officials said on Saturday.

The woman began complaining of discomfort after receiving a dose of the Pfizer vaccine around noon on Friday, Dr. Michael Morris, director of the immunization program at Kaiser Permanente Southern California, said in a statement.

She lost consciousness while being treated by medical staff. Paramedics began performing CPR on her, but she could not be resuscitated, Morris continued.

Officials say there were no signs or symptoms indicating the woman had a severe allergy to the vaccine. His cause of death is still being determined.

The woman’s family said she had a history of heart disease.

Despite the tragedy, her 57-year-old husband, who also received a COVID-19 vaccine, says he still plans to receive the second dose in a few weeks, officials said.

Health officials said the site will remain open for scheduled vaccinations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that if a person has a severe allergic reaction after receiving the first dose of the vaccine, they should not receive the second dose.
