Caitlyn Jenner insisted on Friday her candidacy for California governor was “fully operational” after flying to Australia two months before state recall elections to film reality TV show .
“My campaign team is fully operational and so am I,” Jenner said in a tweet Friday afternoon.
“I’m in this race to win for California because it’s worth fighting for it.”
The former Olympian’s statement followed reports she flew to Australia earlier this week to film “Big Brother VIP”.
A spokesperson for Jenner’s California campaign confirmed the trip to Politico, after Australian tabloids reported the overseas trip to film “Celebrity Big Brother.” Politico has announced that Jenner will return to California to campaign via a “bus tour” in the months leading up to the September 14 recall election, when she takes on Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Jenner, 71, is one of eight challengers looking to topple Newsom in Golden State’s second recall election.
The Republican claimed her trip to the United States had no bearing on her dedication to trying to rule her home state.
“I honor a work commitment I made before I even decided to run for governor,” Jenner said in a tweet. “There is no pause at all in this race to save CA!”
The reality TV star announced her candidacy on April 23. Newsom, the outgoing Democrat, is a favorite to stay in power, race polls show.
Jenner said she wanted to bring the same mentality she had as an Olympian to the state capital.
“I wanna take that same fight, that same spirit, go to Sacramento, [and] surround myself with some of the smartest people there is, ”Jenner said in May.
