MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – The Miami Dolphins announced today that the assistant head coach and the quarterbacks Jim Caldwell take time off work to solve health problems. Caldwell will serve as a consultant for the team for the 2019 season.

"I'm going to retire because of some medical complications that require my full attention," said Caldwell. "I would like to thank Stephen Ross, Chris Grier, Coach Flores and the rest of the organization for the support they've provided me and my family."

"We focus on Jim's health and support him in every way possible," said head coach Brian Flores. "With his knowledge and experience, Jim has been an invaluable member of our coaching staff and will continue to serve as a sounding board throughout the season."

Caldwell joined the Dolphins staff on February 8, 2019. He has 17 years of experience in the NFL, including seven seasons as a head coach for two different NFL teams. He was head coach of the 2009-11 Indianapolis Colts and the 2014-17 Detroit Lions, clocking a record 62-50 (.554) in the regular season, four playoff spots, two seasons 11 wins and a conference championship.
