Del Valle (Texas) High 247Sports Hope Five Star Composite Caleb burton, the No. 1 receiver of the Top247, announced Monday evening his engagement in the state of Ohio. The Buckeyes beat the likes of Oklahoma, Texas and Stanford for the blue-chipper’s speech.
Burton 6 feet and 165 pounds is the 9th hope the country overall in the Top247 and ranks 15th respectively in the 247Sports Composite. He joins a Buckeyes class also ranked No.1 nationally.
Burton plans to help Ryan day and his staff continues to roll on the track.
“It was one of my things to be the first wide receiver in my class so I can start recruiting me,” said Burton. “I wanted to be one of the first people to step up and build the whole wave to the state of Ohio.”
Other deals for Burton included Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, Texas A&M and USC. Buckeyes’ presence was bigger than any other program, led by the reigning 247 Sports Receiver Coach and National Scout of the Year. Brian hartline.
“The relationship that me and Coach Coach Day Hartline have, it stands out compared to all the other coaches,” said Burton. “I would say Coach Hartline is a very straightforward guy. I love talking to him. He’s one of the coaches I’ll text him and it doesn’t have to be football. I was out to eat last week and sent a photo of my plate. It sounds silly but it’s one of the things that sets me apart, we just talk, laugh and joke.
That said, Hartline’s pedigree was a major factor.
“The success that Hartline coach has known in the past, being a former catcher in the NFL is a lot of things he went through throughout the process, so I know he can help me teach me, mentor me and get me where I want to go.
It wasn’t lost on seeing Burton Garrett wilson shine and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, two Lone Star State products, which shine in Columbus.
“Watching Garrett and how much he’s improved from first to second year is huge,” said Burton.
Burton is the third five star already in the fold of the state of Ohio in 2022 when he joined the Global Perspective No. 1 quarterback Quinn Ewers with Ohio rookie # 1 linebacker Gabe Powers.
Burton knew he wanted to be a Buckeye for a while and he and his parents chopped up on him on Saturday and that’s when he told Hartline he was coming.
“It was exciting,” Burton said. “It aroused a lot of emotions. It’s just the right thing.
In his sophomore, Burton caught 51 passes for 882 yards and 12 touchdowns. He missed his junior season with an injury, but rehabilitation is going well and he’s back to jogging this week. 247 National Sports Analyst Gabe Brooks compare his game to Jerry Jeudy, a first-round selection in last year’s NFL Draft.
“Good frame potential for a typical outside receiver prospect,” Brooks wrote in his assessment. “Shows impressive timing and high scoring ability on contested shots. Meet the ball at the top. Fits well with encouraging body control. Get out of the line quickly and at the top of the bends in a hurry. Shows impressive burst and acceleration. Dangerous in catch-and-run situations. Usually a good catcher. Good football pedigree. Long field speed adequate to above average, but can be faster at the top. Among Texas’ top prospects for Class 2022. Has potential for all conferences with a long term NFL Draft cap.
