California allows Nuro’s driverless cars to begin commercial deliveries

It wasn’t until earlier this year that the Nuro delivery service became the second company to gain approval to test fully driverless vehicles in California, and it can now claim another milestone. The California DMV granted the state’s first autonomous vehicle deployment license to the company. With regulatory approval in hand, Nuro can begin operating an autonomous utility vehicle service in California.

Nuro says he will begin making deliveries “soon” to San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, with an announcement of a partnership with an “established” business partner to follow. If you’re hoping to see one of his adorable R2 delivery vehicles (pictured above) in action, you’ll have to wait; the start-up will start by commuting with its fleet of autonomous Toyota Prius cars before putting the R2 into action.
