Some northern California casinos are moving forward with New Year’s party plans, even as the COVID-19 pandemic rages in the already ravaged Golden State.
The popular Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks and the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln are reportedly hosting exclusive indoor parties as communities across the country cancel traditional events celebrating the annual milestone.
Casino galas are possible despite Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom’s imposition of another stay-at-home order because they are located on tribal lands not subject to local or state coronavirus restrictions.

“This year’s New Years celebration will be like most of 2020: a little different,” the Cache Creek website read. “Cache Creek Casino Resort will become a private location starting at 12:00 PM on December 31, 2020. We will reopen to the public at 6:00 AM on January 1, 2021.”
Thunder Valley’s “Farewell 2020” event is expected to welcome 6,000 revelers, according to The Sacramento Bee.
It closes to the public early Thursday and reopens for business Friday at 6 a.m.
Most casinos closed in the spring before reopening to customers with measures like temperature controls, plexiglass barriers, mask warrants and reduced capacity.
On its Facebook page, Cache Creek wrote that it had commissioned testing for all employees and that it was also performing “ongoing surveillance testing to identify any asymptomatic cases so that employees can return home to recover before they can. potentially spreading the virus.
The company has a page on their website that explains their health and sanitation procedures. Thunder Valley does not provide this information.
In July, Thunder Valley workers quit their jobs because of unsafe working conditions.
Nonetheless, both sites told the bee that the parties will only be a fraction of the normal number of New Years Eve guests.
That said, the Graton Resort Casino in Rohnert Park abruptly called off its 4,000-person party after the event was maligned on social media.

Like most states, there has been a significant increase in daily case rates in Sonoma County.
None of the three casinos immediately returned messages requesting comment from FOX Business.
