Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed an 18-year-old woman and seriously injured a 19-year-old man while watching The Forever Purge at a Southern California movie theater.

Authorities say there is no known motive for the violence and that Monday’s shooting appeared to be “an unprovoked attack.”

The teens were found by theater workers cleaning up after the 9:35 p.m. screening of the violent horror film at Crossings Mall in Corona, southeast Los Angeles.

Rylee Goodrich was shot and killed and Anthony Barajas remained on life support on Wednesday. Barajas, known online as social media influencer itsanthonymichael, has nearly a million followers on TikTok and more on other platforms.

The suspect, Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery. He is being held on $ 2 million bail.

A firearm corresponding to the caliber of the weapon used in the shooting was found at his home. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Investigators say there was a small audience for this screening of the film. “I am told at the moment that there have been six tickets bought for this film,” Officer Tobias Kouroubacalis told KABC-TV.

“We are asking anyone who might have been inside this movie, or an adjacent cinema, for information,” Kouroubacalis said.
