A police service in northern California identified a "Jane Doe" after 28 years.
The Vacaville Police Department announced Monday that Cynthia Merkley, a mother, was 38 when her body was discovered in 1991, as reported by Fox 2.

Vacaville is about 35 miles southwest of Sacramento.
The cold case of Merkley had been reopened a few years later.

Last year, an updated fingerprint technology finally identified Merkley.
