California policeman “critical” and suspect dead after gunfire in front of police station

A California police officer was in critical but stable condition in a trauma center on Friday night after being shot outside police headquarters, authorities said.

The shooting took place at around 7 p.m. in La Habra, a town of about 60,000 people in Orange County, about 22 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

The officer, who was not immediately identified, reacted after some sort of disturbance occurred outside the police station, La Habra police wrote in a statement on Twitter. .

“The suspect involved is dead and there are no other suspects pending,” the statement said. “A gun was recovered from the scene.”

An investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office was already underway, the police statement said.
