An 11-year-old Californian girl claims her iPhone 6 has caught fire recently. Kayla Ramos says she was holding her iPhone in her hand when she saw sparks and threw the device across the room.

As reported by 23ABC, Ramos said that the iPhone 6 had burned holes in a blanket once it had launched. She added that she usually only uses the device for watching YouTube videos:

"I was sitting and I had my phone in my hand, then I saw sparks flying all over the place and I just threw it on a blanket," Ramos said. "I was right here on the bed and the phone managed to burn that blanket and make those holes," Ramos said.

Ramos explains that she used her iPhone 6 to watch YouTube videos and that she sometimes lets her younger siblings play games with him.

Kayla's mother, Maria Adata, said she made contact with Apple to ask her to send the phone to a service center. Apple would also provide the family with a new phone and investigate the cause of the blast. Apple itself has not publicly commented on the situation.

Apple generally claims that the iPhone can ignite in various ways, including the use of unauthorized charging cables and aftermarket repairs. In the case of Ramos, however, the family claims that none of these apply to their iPhone 6.

This is not the first time we see an iPhone catch fire. In some cases, the fire is due to overheating because it was placed under a pillow. Two years ago, a viral video on Twitter claimed to show an iPhone 7 Plus being caught on fire. In December, an Ohio man said his iPhone XS Max had caught fire and exploded in his pocket.

The details of the Ramos case remain unclear, but we will make sure to proceed with an upgrade if Apple publicly comments on the cause of the explosion.
