Kentucky will not face a new opponent this week to replace the team’s postponed game against the Texas A&M Aggies.
On his on-call radio show Monday night, UK head coach John Calipari said the team would have a week off before facing the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon.
“No game this week,” he said. “I didn’t want to add another game, push another game in there.”
Originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. ET, the Wildcats’ home game against the Aggies was officially postponed on Saturday night due to a combination of positive testing, contact tracing and the subsequent quarantine of individuals in the Texas A&M men’s basketball program.
It is the second league game that has been postponed as the UK’s home game against South Carolina, originally scheduled for December 29, has also been postponed. The team also had previous games against Detroit Mercy and Texas called off.
After Kentucky’s victory over Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, Calipari said the UK would likely play three SEC games in the final week of the season instead of adding a new game this week.

Ahead of Texas A&M’s postponement, Calipari said any changes or additions to the year-end schedule depended on the SEC’s plan to use the last week of the season to reschedule previously postponed games. If the league needed the UK to reschedule conference games for ranking purposes, that would obviously be the priority. If the SEC didn’t, Calipari said he was looking to add “a few games” to the schedule, adding that several athletic directors from mid-range programs had already contacted Kentucky to ask them to play.
