Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Black Ops Cold are too big for the PS4

Call of Duty: Cold War Black Ops, Modern war, and Warzone are too big to live with a standard PS4 hard drive, Activision announced earlier today.

Wednesday night, last year Call of Duty: Cold War Black Ops seen its Season 2 update. This update represents 10.5-26.5 GB of data depending on the platform. This is notable, as it officially pushed the file size to Modern warfare, war zone, and Cold War Black Ops to a new stage: the three games can no longer fit on a single 500 GB PlayStation 4 hard drive.

The Call of Duty file size issue isn’t entirely new, but it takes the issue to a new level. And while you might be wondering “why would anyone want three different Call of Duty games at once on their console,” consider the number of modes each game offers. The multiplayer ecosystem between the two games is separate, Cold War Black Ops includes a Zombies mode and a campaign, and Warzone is entirely its own fashion. Die-hard Call of Duty fans who’ve already dedicated all of their internal storage to the last two games in the series won’t even be able to do so anymore.

Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem, although none allow players to keep all the data at once. Players can navigate each game’s menus and remove unwanted content, like zombies or the campaign. This should free up some space, but does not help the player who is still working during the campaign in their free time between zombies, multiplayer and Warzone sessions with their friends. However, unless that player is actively jumping between Cold War Black Ops and Modern war multiplayer, one of them should be completely safe to remove – especially since Modern Warfare is almost two years old.

It’s unclear if Activision, Infinity Ward, Raven, and Treyarch will ever find a better solution to the Storage Wars. But at this rate, the steady growth of Call of Duty seems untenable, especially for players on older consoles with smaller drives.
