Cold War is now fully integrated with Warzone, bringing the game into the 1980s, and with the 2021 game also integrating, the setting has never been more important.
Here’s everything we know about the Call of Duty: Vanguard 2021 game.
Call of Duty: Vanguard title and teaser
There is a rumor from ModernWarzone that the working title of Call of Duty 2021 is ‘Avant-garde.’ This title adds credibility to this world war game’s potential, as Vanguard is the backbone of an advancing army or naval force.
While ModernWarzone believes this title could be changed in the future, Eurogamer “understands that Activision’s current plan is to stick with the Vanguard subtitle for the final release.”
There hasn’t been an official word from Activision yet, and plans could certainly change in the future. A new report from the Video Games Chronicle on June 9, 2021 also reported that this year’s game will be called Call of Duty: Vanguard.
A new teaser has almost confirmed that the next Call of Duty game will be indeed to be called Vanguard. Warzone and Black Ops Cold War Season 5 artwork contains Japanese text.
A user has selected part of the text, and it translates to: “Vanguard is coming”.
CoD: Vanguard release date
Traditionally Call of Duty games release in november. However, Modern Warfare and Black Ops 4 both released in October. Ideally, Call of Duty targets the First Friday of every November, as we’ve seen for the CoD WW2 and Infinite Warfare versions.
The Friday tradition started with Black Ops 3, where previous games were released on the first Tuesday in November. Below you can read some of the latest versions of Call of Duty.
- Advanced war: November 4, 2014

- Black Ops 4: October 12, 2018
- Modern warfare: October 25, 2019

What we do know for sure is that the Call of Duty Vanguard title rumor will be released in 2021. During the company’s call to investors on August 3, executives at Activision Blizzard confirmed that the latest “premium” entry in the Call of Duty franchise will launch later this year.
The President and COO of Activision Blizzard said that “our teams continue to work hard on the next new premium version of Call of Duty, scheduled for Q4.”
CoD: avant-garde tuning and time period
A rumor suggests that the 2021 game will again take place during WWII, and Eurogamer has reported that to be true.
ModernWarzone claimed that CoD: Vanguard would be an alternate version of the WWII story set in the 1950s. However, Eurogamer sources disputed this information, claiming it to be a ” traditional framework of the Second World War ”.
A June 9, 2021 Video Games Chronicle report stated that the setting for Call of Duty: Vanguard would be both in the Pacific and in European WWII theaters. The reported plot will focus on the birth of modern Allied Special Forces and will include Campaign, Zombies, and Multiplayer modes.
Which studio is developing CoD: Vanguard?
During Activision’s fourth quarter earnings call, they confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be released in 2021, with Hammer games in charge of development.
Sledgehammer released Call of Duty: WWII in 2017, but struggled after the departure of their co-founders and many of the team. However, Sledgehammer hired over 150 new people at the studio in 2020 and recently opened a new studio in Toronto.
Activision said that “development is being led by Sledgehammer Games, and the game looks great and is on track for release in the fall.”
Call of Duty: Vanguard reveal date
There is still no confirmation of when Vanguard will be officially revealed, but looking at the Black Ops Cold War announcement, we can hazard a guess. For the first time in Call of Duty history, the next game was revealed during a live in-game event.
All signs point to Vanguard being revealed inside Warzone, with a recent leak suggesting that Vanguard will be revealed in Season 4. On June 9, 2021, the Video Games Chronicle also reported the idea that Call of Duty: Vanguard would be revealed through a gameplay event in Warzone and that it will have a release date in November.
The president of Activision confirmed in a recent interview that their games could be released “later in the year” than before, and VGC has also said Call of Duty will skip E3.
With this information and the Cold War reveal last year, it’s likely that Call of Duty: Vanguard will be revealed in July or August 2021.
On July 16, 2021, reputable leaker Tom Henderson reported for DualSHOCKERS that the Call of Duty: Vanguard reveal could take place between August 18 and 25 via a Warzone live event in the same way that Black Ops Cold War was. revealed.
What engine will Call of Duty: Vanguard run on?
One of the main talking points when discussing Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is the engine. Infinity Ward brought an entirely new and more realistic engine with Modern Warfare and Warzone, while Cold War used an updated version of the Black Ops 3 engine with a more classic CoD feel.
With players switching from Cold War to Warzone often, the engine change can seem shocking, so fans are eager to find out which engine CoD: Vanguard will run on.
VGC report claims 2021 Call of Duty will launch The engine of Modern Warfare. This means the game will likely have the same feel as MW and Warzone and perform the same, offering the same improvements in realism and performance.
Activision also said that “the game is ‘under construction’ for next-gen consoles and PCs,” but there is no official confirmation that the game will also be released for the Xbox One and PS4.
However, VGC reported on June 9, 2021 that Call of Duty: Vanguard is in development for current and next-gen consoles and PCs.
Will Call of Duty: Vanguard integrate with Warzone?
Black Ops Cold War was integrated into Warzone in its first season, offering operators, weapons, and even zombies.
Activision said they intend to keep Warzone at the “front and center” of Call of Duty for a long time. During the fourth quarter investor call, Activision confirmed that CoD 2021 is “designed to both integrate and enhance the existing COD ecosystem.
A report from June 9, 2021 from VGC indicates that the integration between Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard will be very extensive with Sledgehammer Games having more time to prepare for it. This integration will see Warzone transition to a WWII setting after its transition to the 1980s in Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War.
A new Warzone map would arrive with Vanguard
This tuning transition will see a new Pacific Theater WWII warzone map being the primary focus, as it would be the biggest map Call of Duty battle royale has ever seen. This new Warzone map will also feature new vehicles for players to use.
Notable leaker and industry insider Tom Henderson has now leaked even more details about this new Warzone map. He reported that the card will arrive with the release of Vanguard and that it will be much larger than Verdansk.
Henderson said he had heard that the new vehicles would be tanks, ships and planes. But, the most revolutionary vehicles will probably be reserved for an LTM.
The map’s points of interest were reportedly leaked online, but Henderson believes they may now be outdated. He has heard that the location of the Docks may now be scrapped and a Japanese battleship will appear on the map.
Additionally, this map would feature destructible environments in much the same way as Rainbow Six Siege. It won’t feature any Battlefield-level destruction, but you will be able to destroy walls, doors, trees, and other aspects of the environment.
We’ll be sure to update this post with any new information as it becomes available.
A new Battlefield game will also be released in late 2021, and the game has now been officially revealed, so you can check out everything we know about Battlefield 2042 and its multiplayer maps, modes, and specialists.
