Sources close to Vice said the wave of the ban targeted cheaters using EngineOwning because all EngineOwning account holders using the software to cheat in the game have been “wiped out.” On the EngineOwning site, the cheat developers say they are working on updating the cheat, according to Vice.

Meanwhile, the EngineOwning Discord channel is full of account owners unhappy that their accounts have been banned by Activision.

This wave of bans came somewhat out of nowhere given that Activision had previously warned of incoming bans before dropping the hammer in past instances. Activision at that point introduced the software they deem worthy of a ban and it included “aimbots, wallhacks, trainers, stat hacks, texture hacks, ranking hacks, injectors, hexadecimal editors or any software used to deliberately modify game data or memory ”.
