It’s been nearly a year since Google announced that call recording would be possible on Android, provided you have a compatible device and live in a country that allows it legally. The feature was first brought online to Nokia and then Xiaomi phones, and later gained the ability to automatically record calls from unknown numbers. It is now making its way to the Pixels too.
Two tipsters mentioned that the call recording feature is now available to them on their Pixels (3 XL and 4a). One tipster is located in India, but the second one we are not sure. Both also use the beta version of the Google Phone app.
To our knowledge, this is the first time that the call recording capability has appeared on Pixels without any mods or hacks. But given how geo-restricted the feature is, as well as its random server-side component, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s been deployed for quite some time now. It also appears to appear on OnePlus phones, although we don’t know if it’s new or not.
If you live in a country where call recording is legal and you own a Pixel, you can sign up for the beta or make sure you’re using at least version 68.0.388241074 (APK Mirror). This should increase the chances that you will see it on your phone.
